AC/DC’s legendary drummer Chris Slade spoke in the recent interview with Sonic Perspectives and unveiled the untold truth behind the vocalist of the band, Brian Johnson’s farewell to the band in 2016.

Back in the days, AC/DC announced that Brian decided to step down from the band because he wanted to save his hearing. Afterward, they stated that Guns N’ Roses vocalist Axl Rose will join the band.

In the conversation, Chris revealed what was happening in rehearsal sessions with Brian and said that he could hear Brian so well. Afterward, Chris added that he was shocked when he found out that Brian is leaving the band because of his hearing problems.

Thanks to this statement, we learned the truth from Chris. It seemed like the band members didn’t pay attention to the problems of Brian as they should have. Apparently, Brian has serious issues with his hearings, and the band members didn’t notice it in the first place.

Here is what Chris Slade said:

“I think Brian was doing the best he possibly could do. I could hear him so well because I was using in-ear monitors. He didn’t sound anything like he thought he sounded. But of course, he felt really bad that he couldn’t do what he considered his best.

I was shocked when he was no longer around. I was even more shocked when they said they were trying out Axl Rose. I was like, ‘What?’ Because I heard all the stories.”

He continued:

“Turns out he was the nicest guy, and when he started singing, I didn’t realize that he had that voice. He was phenomenal and could cover all the eras! He was never late for anything as AC/DC goes by the second, not the minute when they start a show.

Only once did they not start a show on time in 45 years, and I happened to be in the band. It was due to an issue with Angus’ guitar not being set-up properly. As far as they were concerned, they have never been late on stage.”
