AC/DC recently posted two photos on their official Instagram account and recalled April 15, 1980, when it was announced that AC/DC decided to hire Brian Johnson following the passing of their beloved bandmate Bon Scott.

AC/DC was founded by Malcolm and Angus Young in 1973. Bon Scott joined in 1974 and he became the band’s co-lead vocalist and lyricist from 1974 until his passing in 1980. Scott sadly passed away on February 19, 1980, and his death has been one of the most enigmatic ones in rock history and there are dozens of theories about why he passed away.

Following Bon Scott’s passing, AC/DC members briefly considered quitting but eventually decided that he would have wanted them to continue. Thus, almost two months later, they hired Brian Johnson, and without knowing it, they started a new era in rock history. This is what the band celebrated with their recent post on their Instagram account.

Here’s what AC/DC said in the caption of their recent post:

“On this day 1980 – A record company press release announces that Brian Johnson has joined AC/DC.”
