KISS original lead guitarist and co-founding member Ace Frehley shared a post on his official Twitter page announcing that he was not asked and will not be performing with KISS for their New Year’s Eve Concert in Dubai.
As many of you may know, Ace Frehley left KISS in 1982 after working with them for nine years from the band’s beginning. After his departure, Frehley continued as a solo artist, which was put on hold when he rejoined Kiss in 1996 for a reunion tour. However, Frehley’s comeback lasted only until 2002.
During a recent interview, Frehley revealed his reason for leaving KISS and stated that according to him, making music is all about fun and finding happiness. However, KISS, especially bassist Gene Simmons was focusing on merchandising the band and constantly tour which ultimately leads Frehley to leave the band.
Here is what Frehley stated about why he left KISS:
“The whole idea behind rock ‘n’ roll is that it’s supposed to be fun. You listen to music, and it gets you happy. KISS used to be fun for me, and when it got to the point where it wasn’t fun anymore, I quit.
1981, Gene was over-merchandising the band, they wanted to tour constantly, I didn’t want to tour – I wanted to drive my sports cars and hang out with my friends in between. They were workaholics, and I wanted to go to Studio 54 and enjoy my stardom.
Since KISS will be performing their first show after being in the dark for almost a year in Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai for New Year’s Eve, many websites and social media accounts assumed that Ace Frehley will also be performing with them for the live streaming show.
However, according to the latest post of Ace Frehley on his official Twitter account, the truth is far from the allegations. Frehley revealed that he was never asked to perform with them and will not be performing with KISS for their special concert. Furthermore, Ace revealed that he has been recording his new solo studio album.
Here’s what Frehley said about the rumors of his appearance on the upcoming KISS show:
“Contrary to online statements, Ace was not asked to and will not be appearing with KISS at their New Year’s Eve concert in Dubai. Ace is currently in Nashville, TN recording his new studio album of all original material. Ace wishes all of his fans a happy & prosperous New Year!”
