The Swedish melodic death metal band Amon Amarth’s frontman, Johan Hegg, recently posted a video of his partner Maria doing martial arts on his Instagram account and celebrated International Women’s Day by saying that it’s a no–brainer to understand that women should enjoy the same rights and liberties as men.
As you probably know, Amon Amarth was formed back in 1992 in Sweden, and they are well known for their powerful music and beautiful lyrics which often deal with Viking history and Norse mythology. However, the band prefers to be referred to as melodic death metal rather than Viking metal.
They have released eleven albums to this day and are currently one of the most famous death metal bands in the world. Amon Amarth’s frontman Johan Hegg is known for his great singing and acting skills. However, he also has a business ‘HeggVeggr‘ with his partner Maria with whom they try to guide their followers to maintain and restore their physical, mental, and emotional balance and live closer to nature.
Sharing his life and his business with a woman, Johan Hegg finds it ‘odd’ and unbelievable that ‘half of humanity doesn’t enjoy the same rights and liberties as the other half purely based on gender.’ In the caption of his post, he celebrated International Women’s Day and said that although he’s not the most vocal advocate for women’s rights, he believes it’s a ‘no-brainer’ that women deserve them.
Here’s what Johan Hegg said in the caption of his Instagram post:
“I may not be the most vocal advocate for women’s rights, but I do think it should be a no-brainer that women deserve them, and I think today is an important day.
Not because I’m a ‘feminist,’ but I am a humanist, and it strikes me as very odd that half of humanity doesn’t enjoy the same rights and liberties as the other half purely based on gender.⠀
So here’s to all women – today and every other day!”
