The famous former drummer of Lambs of God Chris Adler talked about his participation in the public memorial for Pantera’s drummer Vinnie Paul in 2018 during a recent Facebook Live Chat with Mapex Drums USA.
Vinnie Paul was the drummer and also the co-founder of Pantera who died on June 22, 2018 at the age of 54 due to coronary artery disease.
Chris Adler stated that he met Pantera’s guitarist Darrell Abbott as well but he was close friends with Vinnie Paul. Due to being close friends with him, Adler was asked to speak at his funeral which was a moment of epiphany for him:
“To be honest with you, that was the moment that I realized I’m an adult.
This whole rock and roll experience that I’ve had has been almost a fantasy, because my hero, my friend is dead, and I’m asked by everyone close to him to please speak about him at his funeral.
And I was not without words; I was ready to go. But it was a very difficult thing to accept, because I had to kind of eat it.”
He talked about how he felt after realizing the reality of death:
“And that was one of the moments in my life where I realized, like, F*ck! I’m an adult now. People are dying at my age, people are dying very close to my age. This is happening.”
Chris Adler also commented on the personality of Vinnie Paul and how much he liked him:
“I loved him as a person, and I also love the legacy. And he loved me too. It was a sad moment, but I was very proud to be a part of that.”
