The co-founder and lead guitarist of AC/DC, Angus Young has talked about the decision on the frontman of the band between Brian Johnson and Axl Rose for their epic comeback six years after their last studio album, ‘Rock or Bust.’
During a recent interview, the band members have given to the Rolling Stone, they’ve spoken about their reunion for the upcoming album, ‘Power Up.’ Along with the rest of the band, Angus Young has explained how they decided to move on with Brian Johnson despite his hearing issues that first showed up in 2016.
Angus revealed that there was a list of people that might fill in the position and even the former frontman, Axl Rose, contacted and said he could help out. Yet, they focused on the comeback of Johnson, who overcame his serious hearing issues after a long struggle.
On 16 April 2016, AC/DC released a statement announcing the addition of Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose as the band’s lead vocalist for their 2016 ‘Rock or Bust World Tour.’ After completing the tour, the band went on hiatus.
As you know, AC/DC has lastly unveiled the tracklist of their long-awaited album, which will be released on November 13, alongside the full version of their song from there, ‘Shot In The Dark.’
After they’ve come up with the official audio video of the song on YouTube on Wednesday, October 7, the band members have made conversations with several sources, including Rock 100.5 Atlanta radio station and Rolling Stone, about the creation process of the album.
Here’s what Angus Young said about his decision on Brian Johnson:
“When you run through the different scenarios, none of them were the best options. You think, ‘Should we cancel?‘ Then we’d have the other pieces, the legal stuff, and whatnot.
We got suggestions from management. ‘Maybe if you try to put something together that you might get…’ There was a list of people that might fill in. Out of the blue, Axl Rose contacted and said he could help out, which was very good.
I suppose we could have canceled. But either way… When you look at all the options… It’s a tough decision all around.”
