Shinedown frontman Brent Smith spoke to Loudwire Nights host Toni Gonzalez and talked about their upcoming album, which he defined as ‘aggressive but necessary’ and shared some details.

After they released ‘Attention Attention,’ Shinedown gave a break to their recording sessions until they announced the new album in 2021. The band’s upcoming seventh studio album entitled ‘Planet Zero’ will be released on April 22, 2022, and their fans are very excited about it.

In fact, Shinedown dropped the lead single ‘Planet Zero’ on January 26, 2022, as a part of promoting the new record. Brent Smith opened up about their highly anticipated album, saying that it’s very heavy and aggressive but necessary to make people realize some things going on around them.

However, the Shinedown singer highlighted that it’s neither wholly political nor forcing people to think like them. Brent Smith added that the album carries psychological elements which they have been working on for years and it will stand out since most contemporary musicians don’t write or compose about mental health anymore.

In Smith’s words, he stated:

“It’s heavy stuff. There’s a lot of psychology to it… This band’s been writing about mental health for 20 years. There’s a lot of triumph on this record, though, too — an immense amount of triumph but there are also elements here where some people will say that it’s a bit more aggressive than usual, but it’s necessary because the only way to get the point across in some of this material, we have to be aggressive.

This was a record that was written for the people by the people. The record is not a complete political record, thought-provoking record in regards to, ‘This is what we think, and you should think that way.’ It’s the complete opposite of that. What it is, it’s historical. Nobody writes records like these anymore.”
