During the recent interview published by Express.co.uk, Queen guitarist Brian May has shared his thoughts about Rami Malek’s performance as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody movie.

Brian May said that Rami Malek deserves an Oscar nod for his work. Here’s the statement:

He’s incredible… without doubt he’ll be on the nominations list for an Oscar and well deserved as well. He inhabited Freddie to the point where we even started to think of him as Freddie. Really remarkable.

We’ve lived with this project for nine years and it’s incredible to see it doing so well. It came out to s***ty reviews, as some of our work has before, but the public has embraced it magnificently.

Everybody gave 200%, from the actors and technicians to the production team and hair and make up, everyone. You don’t get any lukewarm responses. The guy who plays me should be getting awards all over.”

Two days ago, Rami Malek expressed his feelings about portraying Freddie Mercury and said:

“It was an immense responsibility for me. I felt like I was running on a highly confident level at times.

This was an honour to portray Freddie Mercury, and there was a certain amount of justice that you have to give to the man in order to portray him, or portray the band. So I wanted to go to work with the highest level of functioning capability I could.

So we all raised our games, day in and day out. And I appreciated taking a leadership responsibility, because that’s what Freddie would have done.”
