One of the most iconic and successful figures of the grunge and rock scene, the Grammy winning American singer and songwriter Chris Cornell dies from suicide at the age of 52. Best known as the lead singer for the rock bands Soundgarden and Audioslave, Cornell was found dead in his hotel room in Detroit on May 18, 2017.

Alongside his early works Cornell was also well-known for his solo works and soundtrack composition and was considered one of the best vocalists of his generation. Cornell was also among the first and biggest influences of the grunge genre in the 90s.

After his first band The Shemps broke up, the original members of the band got back together in 1984 and formed the Soundgarden. Later Scott Sundquist joined the band as the drummer and this left Cornell to focus on singing and allowed his talents to shine as a singer and songwriter. The success of Soundgarden would propel Cornell into the mainstream music scene and to great success.

Most of Chris Cornell’s success in his music career, aside from his band performances and shows, can be attributed to his talent in songwriting. Some of Cornell’s most successful works include;

  • The studio albums from Soundgarden “Superunknown” and “Badmotofinger”

  • Songs for several big movie titles such as “You Know My Namefor the 2006 James Bond movie Casino Royale and a single titled “Live To Rise” for The Avengers movie.

  • The platinum certified Soundgarden album called “Telephantasm” that’s sold more than one million copies.

Between his works with the band and his solo works Cornell sold over nearly 15 million units. Before his tragic passing Cornell’s had an estimated net worth of $60 million and he was considered among the richest grunge musicians, yet Cornell believed that “making music was never about the money”.

Who Inherited His Fortune?

There are no statements or details surrounding the questions regarding what will happen to the properties and money left behind by the late rock musician Chris Cornell. It is speculated that it will be shared between Cornell’s wife Vicky and three children Toni, Lillian Jean and Christopher Nicholas.

It is also known that Cornell had been active in contributing to various charities and founded his own charity “Chris and Vicky Cornell Foundation” that work to help homeless, poor and abused children.
