Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor spoke to Knotfest and shared his ideas about the band’s new single. Also, he opened up about their former drummer and friend Joey Jordison’s death.

As you probably know, Slipknot released their sixth studio album entitled ‘We Are Not Your Kind’ on August 9, 2019. The album received very positive reviews from fans and music critics. The band didn’t want to make their fans wait long for the new album, and both Corey Taylor and Shawn Crahan revealed they started working on their upcoming album.

The album’s release date and title are still unknown, but the band released their new single, ‘The Chapeltown Rag,’ on November 5, 2021. According to Taylor, the song is frenetic, can be interpreted differently, but it is definitely a classic Slipknot. The musician then paid tribute to his late bandmate Joey Jordison, who passed away on July 26, 2021.

Corey Taylor highlighted that he’s been going through hard times since losing Jordison. He defined him as the most talented and tortured person he’s known. Jordison was fighting with a severe neurological disease, but he never gave up or lost his passion for music until his death.

Taylor talked about their new single in his interview:

“It’s classic Slipknot. It’s frenetic, but lyrically, it’s coming from a point of talking about the various manipulations that can happen when social media meets media itself. And the different ways that these manipulations can try to pull us in different directions, in the fact that we’re all becoming addicts to it, which is very, very dangerous.”

The frontman said the following about Joey’s passing:

“It’s been tough. You know, with Joey there was so much he was such a complicated guy. Probably one of the most talented people I’ve ever met. Maybe one of the most tortured. When I think about the good things, the tough things get in, and it’s still taking me time to process.

However, the things I do remember, there were so many good times, so many great fucking shows with him, and just so many good memories of creating music with him. That’s the stuff that I’m really trying to focus on.”
