The late icon Kurt Cobain’s wife and retired successful musician, Courtney Love, recently posted rare and special footage from one of Nirvana‘s performances and shared the backstory of her song, ‘Doll Parts,’ while asserting her ‘soft feminist motto.’
Courtney Love was one of the most popular figures of the ’90s alternative and grunge scenes, and she had reached fame as the frontwoman of the successful alternative rock band, Hole. Her love affair with Kurt Cobain has attracted a lot of interest since they met, back on January 12, 1990, in Portland, Oregon.
Her clothing style was often mocked by other people in the rock scene, and her interest in her outlook was criticized as anti-feminist. However, in her recent Instagram post, Courtney said that she is a ‘soft feminist’ and that she agrees with Lana Del Rey’s saying; ‘My legacy is my lovemaking,’ which is the soft feminist Illuminati motto.
Aside from that, it looks like some details about Courtney and Kurt’s relationship surfaced when Miley Cyrus covered one of Hole’s most popular songs, written by Courtney, the ‘Doll Parts.’ Courtney had already posted Miley’s cover on her official Instagram account congratulating her for her performance.
However, it seems like listening to the song brought memories from the time when she wrote that song. Courtney wrote ‘Doll Parts’ back in 1991 which describes the complicated feelings of a woman who is in love with an unfaithful man. The song explores the feelings of anger, jealousy and even revenge as the speaker says ‘And someday, you will ache as I ache.’
Even though in the past Courtney was asked whether she wrote that song for Kurt to which she answered yes, she had never given details on her writing process and the feelings she experienced.
In her new Instagram post, she shared rare footage of Kurt Cobain from 1991, who before starting the band’s legendary song ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit,’ said that he wants everyone to know that ‘Courtney Love is the best f*ck in the world.’ Courtney said that she heard this when she was about to go on stage in Germany, and even though some people found it crude, she found it sweet.
Here’s what Kurt Cobain said before they started playing ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’:
“I’d like all of you people in this room to know that Courtney Love, the lead singer of the sensational punk group Hole, is the best fuck in the world.”
While sharing such a precious memory for her, Courtney also revealed the story behind ‘Doll Parts.’ It turns out that Love wrote that song in a friend’s bathroom after a guy she had been sleeping with had left town with his band, who she found out was sleeping with two other girls. She channeled her frustration and heartbreak to the lyrics of the song, and as it turns out the guy who made her this unhappy would become her husband.
Courtney added that normally, good songs and lyrics don’t just come in twenty minutes but the feelings she had were so strong that this piece did. She finished her Instagram caption with a simple yet sassy sentence, by simply saying ‘Anyway, I married that guy.’
Here’s what Courtney said in the caption of her Instagram post:
“Here’s a nice homage too (Kurt Cobain), though Miley Cyrus was very sweet, and I’m touched. As Lana Del Rey says, ‘My legacy is my lovemaking’ the motto of the soft feminist Illuminati and I couldn’t agree more. Can someone please translate our motto into Latin? I may get a tattoo of it.
When this clip of Nirvana on ‘The Word’ in the UK played, I heard about it in Germany, right as I was about to go onstage. Despite it seeming possibly vulgar to some, it isn’t, it was really sweet, and made me chuckle. Sort of embarrassed and sort of not.
The song ‘Doll Parts‘ is a homage I wrote in 20 minutes in a girl named Joyce’s bathroom in Cambridge, Massachusetts. I had to write most of the lyrics on my arm in sharpie as I ran out of paper. People were pounding on the door as I wrote it. It was played for the first time about an hour later, at the Virgin megastore in Boston.”
Here’s what Courtney said about the lyrics of the song:
“It was about a boy, whose band had just left town, who I’d been sleeping with, who I heard was sleeping with 2 other girls, it was my way of saying ‘You’re a fucking idiot if you don’t choose ME, and here is all the desire and fury and love that I feel for you.’ Good songs don’t always come in 20 minutes but the force was strong and that one did. Anyway, I married that guy 🦢 👑”
