About a month ago, Denmark Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen visited Indonesia and presented President Joko Widodo with an unusual gift: A Metallica “Master Of Puppets” box set.

Lars Løkke Rasmussen spoke in an interview with Channel News Asia and explained why he gave to Indonesia President Joko Widodo.

Interviewer said:

“Is it true that you gave to President Joko Widodo a boxset of Metallica signed?”

Denmark Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen responded:

Signed by Lars Ulrich, the drummer who originally invented Metallica because I have heard that the Indonesian president is truly a Metallica fan and a heavy metal fan. And, you know, instead of just giving him a nice Royal Copenhagen [porcelain dish] or whatever, I thought I would give him something he would really appreciate.

So you can call it the ‘hard rock diplomacy.’ China has ‘panda diplomacy,’ so we invented the ‘hard rock diplomacy.'”
