In a recent interview by BBC Music, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl spoke about Kurt Cobain’s vocal style. He said that Kurt Cobain never had any formal training in singing.

Here’s the statement:

“I’m pretty sure that he never had any formal training in singing, but I don’t think he needed it – he just had it.

Actually, it was funny when we were making the [1991] record ‘Nevermind,’ he started blowing out his voice so he went to go see this vocal coach.

He comes back from this vocal coach, and I said, ‘How’d it go?’ He said, ‘Check this out.’ And he put this cassette in the cassette player of the warm ups that this guy wanted him to do.

It was like, ‘Me me me me me me! Boy boy boy boy boy!’ And we sat and we laughed like hell as we listened to it, and then threw the cassette away. Cause no, it didn’t really [work].
