Foo Fighters frontman and former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl’s bandmate from Foo Fighters, drummer Taylor Hawkins had a recent interview with KLOS.

Hawkins revealed how Nirvana became that famous by accident. According to Hawkins, Dave was singing harmony and it was all the working of fortune.

Here is his statement:

“Dave told me that when Kurt was writing [‘Pennyroyal Tea’], I don’t know if he was writing it, but he was playing it for him in their first apartment in Aberdeen. I think it was Aberdeen, I don’t know, I wasn’t there. He told me Dave was singing harmony, just almost by accident, and that’s the harmony that is on the record. It really creates this amazing sort of weird tension that is just perfect.”

He continued:

“That was a perfect band, Nirvana was a perfect perfect band. You knew it the second you saw them, the second you heard them. That guy sounds like John Lennon, that guy plays drums like Animal, and that bassist is a cool weird hippy bouncing around. They were perfect. Then they’re not here anymore, and Dave started this band called Foo Fighters, and instead of me delivering pizzas [I’m here].”
