The Byrds frontman David Crosby spoke in a recent interview with Howard Stern and explained why he sold his publishing rights to Irving Azoff.
In the conversation, Crosby revealed that he sold his publishing rights to Irving because he couldn’t work because of the coronavirus outbreak and didn’t have the money that almost makes him lose his house.
Furthermore, Crosby pointed out that it didn’t feel good to give his publishing rights to another person even though it was a friend of him, he said that that it makes him take care of his family.
Moreover, Crosby also pointed out that he is not worried about it at all because selling the rights solved all the problems he had. As Crosby said, he could even pay off the house they bought recently.
Interviewer asked:
“The last time I saw you, I think it was at the premiere of your movie, it was really good, and I was sitting behind you. As I was watching the documentary, it made me feel like you were gonna die at any minute because they were talking about all your various health problems.
I remember at one point, I leaned forward, I wasn’t sure if you were breathing, but you were fine. The movie gives you that sense, but also I was afraid that you were losing your home, you had no money.”
David Crosby said:
“I was afraid too, well here’s what happened. No money from streaming, so no money from records. So then I was trying to be grateful that I could still go out and work and pay the rent and take care of my family.
And along comes Covid, and I can’t go out and work, so what I did was, I sold my publishing to our pal Irving.
He’s been my friend for a long time, he gave me a ton of money, I paid off the house. You should’ve seen my wife’s smile when I told her I paid off the house – like watching the sun come up.”
He continued:
“Emotionally, it sucks, it’s not good at all, but it solved my problem, and it made me able to take care of my family, and they really matter to me, man.
I’m not worried about it, I don’t think they’re going to do anything cheesy with it, I think they’re going to try to increase the take.
I’m trying to have another career based on that Ask Croz Rolling Stone thing, I really like it.”
