David Lee Roth made an appearance at the recent MTV Awards and gave a small speech about himself. He mentioned that he had a conversation with his former bandmate Alex Van Halen and revealed that they are going to celebrate their 50th anniversary soon.
Lee Roth was the lead singer of Van Halen for almost 45 years despite quitting the band a couple of times along the way. He worked with them from 1974 until 1985 and returned in 2006 until they disbanded in 2020 after the death of their legendary guitar player Eddie Van Halen.
Eddie passed away from aggressive throat cancer in 2020, and his death was announced by his son Wolfgang Van Halen who was also a part of the band since 2006, playing the bass guitar. Van Halen disbanded after the saddening death of their guitarist, and told their fans that there will be no reunion as ‘You can’t have Van Halen without Eddie Van Halen.’
Even without Van Halen, Roth was able to make a name for himself with his success in going solo. He released albums that were certified gold and platinum such as ‘A Little Ain’t Enough,’ and ‘Your Filthy Little Mouth.’
Roth had attended numerous MTV awards throughout his career, and this year in his interview, he started with a pun telling the interviewer that he is the person their parents would listen to. After he talked about Eddie’s passing, he mentioned that he recently reconnected with the band’s drummer, and they are about to celebrate their 50th anniversary of knowing each other.
Here is what he stated about Alex Van Halen:
“And you know what? I just spoke to Alex Van Halen. We’re about to celebrate our 50th year of ragging on each other.”
Some fallouts led David Lee Roth to quit the band and pursue a solo career, Sammy Hagar even called the rockstar an ‘idiot’ for quitting Van Halen once. However, the relationship between the band members seems to be smooth now, considering Eddie didn’t pass away a long time ago. The fans are excited about Alex and David’s reunion and are looking forward to his new projects in the future.
