Dee Snider, singer, songwriter, actor, best known as lead singer and songwriter of Twisted Sister in the early 1980s, shared a post on his official Twitter page. Snider revealed his choice of the greatest heavy metal song ever written, and it’s Stargazer by Rainbow.
The fifth track from Rainbow‘s 1976 album named Rising, Stargazer has an interesting narrative. The song has a story of a wizard whose attempt to fly by building a tower to the stars led to the enslavement of people. While the story is unusual, the song is also known for its musical quality as well thanks to the guitarist Richie Blackmore, singer Ronnie James Dio, and drummer Cozy Powell.
Dee Snider shared a post on his official Twitter page about this epic song while he was listening to it. And Snider called the song the greatest heavy metal song ever written and paid tribute to those who created the song that, sadly, passed away.
Here is what Snider said about Stargazer:
“Just listening to the GHMSEW, Rainbow’s ‘Stargazer,’ greatest heavy metal song ever written & realized 4 of 6 people, including the producer, responsible for that track have passed. Sad. RIP Ronnie James Rio, Cozy Powell, Jimmy Bain, Martin Birch.”
