One of the most influential rock bands of all time, KISS, was formed by Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, and Peter Criss in 1973. Stanley and Simmons were the only permanent members although the band went through several lineup changes throughout their career.

The band acquired fame in the late 1970s with their entertaining and energetic performances, including fire-breathing, blood-spitting, pyrotechnics, and smoking guitars. In most of their performances, the band members have used face paint and unique stage outfits and their stage personas are comic book-style characters. For instance, while Stanley is the Starchild, Simmons is the Demon.

The band remained in the music scene for 45 years and has sold over 75 million albums worldwide. On September 2-18, KISS decided to embark on a final tour named ‘The End Of The Road World Tour.’ The tour started in January 2019 and is scheduled to conclude in 2022.

Apart from their studio albums, KISS has also released several live albums and DVDs. One of them was their ‘Kiss Symphony: Alive IV.’ During the band’s performance, fans noticed something when the band was playing their song ‘Forever.’ Was that Gene Simmons playing the violin, or were they mistaken?

Was It Gene Simmons Who Played The Violin On Kiss’ Live DVD?

Featuring original KISS members Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, and Peter Criss, the band played at a concert with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra in February 2003. Following the successful performance, the band also released their performance as a live album that year, on July 22.

KISS also released this performance as a DVD titled ‘Kiss Symphony: Alive IV’ featuring some footage from the concert. Together with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the band played some of their greatest hits during the show.

During their performance of ‘Forever,’ someone playing the violin who looked just like Gene Simmons appeared on the screen. This caught fans’ attention, and some of them claimed it was Gene Simmons. Some also entertained themselves with the possibility of photoshopped photos of Gene Simmons with a violin.

Although disappointing, the violin-playing demon was not Gene Simmons. It was just a woman from the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra who had also put on Gene Simmons’ makeup during their performance.

Below is the performance of ‘Forever’ in which you can see the aforementioned woman playing the violin.
