The legendary English rockstar, Elton John, recently posted a tweet on his Twitter account after receiving the news about the Vatican not blessing same-sex marriage and criticized them for investing in ‘The Rocketman’ a film that includes a gay male sex scene while denouncing gay unions.

Elton John is without a doubt one of the most famous and accomplished musicians of all time and his music career started back in 1962. Aside from his music, Elton John is also widely known for his philanthropy and his efforts to raise awareness on crucial matters, which is the reason why he was knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 1998.

As he’s a musician who’s so involved in social matters, it shouldn’t be surprising that he had something to say after the Vatican’s latest ruling. Catholics all over the world were highly disappointed when they heard the Vatican announced that priests cannot bless samesex unions, especially because it was approved by Pope Francis who has supported civil protections for gay couples.

The Catholic Church said that it welcomes gay people but not their relationships which was heartbreaking for many gay Catholics. Elton John couldn’t stay silent to this ruling and in his recent tweet, he exposed the hypocrisy of the Catholic Church. He revealed that the Vatican actually invested millions of euros in ‘Rocketman’ which brought them a huge profit.

As you probably know, ‘The Rocketman‘ is a film that explores Elton John’s music career and is known to be the first film produced by a major studio to include a gay male sex scene. In his tweet, Elton said that this film is a celebration of the happiness that he found by getting married to David, and stated that he finds it very hypocritical of the Catholic Church to make money off this film but condemn gay marriage because it’s a sin.

Here’s what Elton John said in his recent tweet:

“How can the Vatican refuse to bless gay marriages because they ‘are sin,’ yet happily make a profit from investing millions in Rocketman‘ – a film which celebrates my finding happiness from my marriage to David? Hypocrisy.”
