Evanescence’s vocalist, Amy Lee, shared her feelings on social media after the murder of George Floyd which is the reason for the protests and riots that have been taking place in America recently.
As you already know, a black man named George Floyd died in Minneapolis, after a police officer knelt down on his neck until he couldn’t breathe. He was unarmed and shouting that he couldn’t breathe, yet the police officers ignored him.
After the incident, protests started to take place in Minneapolis and people set fire to the police station. Donald Trump responded with a threatening message towards the protestors and Twitter blocked his tweet due to glorifying violence.
After these incidents, Amy Lee shared her thoughts and feelings on her official Facebook account. She was horrified:
“I am angry, horrified, ashamed and have been trying to put my thoughts into words all day.”
She was also criticizing Donald Trump for his actions:
“Evil abuses of power and murder in the streets… A president who calls a press conference in the middle of a nationwide outcry, only to try and change the subject
and not even MENTION the murder of George Floyd and the immeasurable injustices that came before it, on top of his threatening, racist tweet.”
She emphasized that this incident was not okay:
“My blood boils…
This is what I want to say: Your voices are not unheard. We are grieving with you and this is not ok.”
