Former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy shared a post on Instagram to celebrate the 75th birthday of the original drummer of KISS, Peter Criss, to whom he referred as his ‘hero,’ and announced a tribute video which is released on Criss’ official website.

For her husband’s 75th birthday, Peter Criss’ wife Gigi made a special tribute video with some of Peter’s musician friends while they all are celebrating his birthday. The video opened with White Zombie frontman Rob Zombie and his wife were holding their numerous cats, an homage to Peter’s stage persona the ‘Catman,’ and included many special stage moments of Peter.

The tribute video was full of legendary musicians like Alice Cooper, Aerosmith lead guitarist Joe Perry, Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello, Guns N’ Roses former drummer Steven Adler, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ drummer Chad Smith, Ted Nugent, former Van Halen frontman Sammy Hagar, Rob Zombie guitarist John 5, and Rush lead vocalist Geddy Lee.

Mike Portnoy also took place in the video to celebrate Peter Criss’ birthday and shared his memory about him that changed his life. Apparently, Peter’s show at Madison Square Garden was one of the turning points in Portnoy’s life. Mike also thanked Peter for being the ultimate inspiration for drummers from all around the world including him.

Here is what Portnoy said in the video:

“Hey Peter, it’s Mike Portnoy here. How you doin’? I wanna wish you a happy 75th birthday and thank you for all of the years of inspiration. Seeing you live at Madison Square Garden in December of ’77 was my Beatles on Ed Sullivan moment, a total life-changer for me. Having you share my drum kit with me over 35 years later was a personal career highlight for me as well.

So thank you for that as well. All the best to you and Gigi, I hope you have a wonderful birthday. Thank you for being the beautiful human being you are and for being such an inspiration and influence on not only me but on drummer all over the world for all these years, thank you so much. I love you and much respect always. Take care, happy birthday.”

In addition to this, Mike Portnoy also shared a post on his official Instagram page and celebrated the KISS icon’s birthday once again by stating that he is honored to be Peter Criss’ friend and be a part of the special tribute video among many other legendary musicians. Furthermore, Mike revealed that Peter is one of his drum heroes in his early days.
