During a recent interview with ‘Everyone Loves Guitar,’ former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy made sincere statements, and he has revealed his second passion besides music.
While talking about film and film-making, the drummer has shared his thoughts about it, and he described the movies as his second love.
Here’s what Mike Portnoy stated:
“I would say I have just as big a passion for film as I do about music, but I’ve never done anything.
I’ve always directed, like, the live DVDs; like all the Dream Theater live DVDs, I always directed and oversaw those.
And even the DVDs I’ve put out with Sons of Apollo and any of the other bands I’m part of now, I’ve always overseen the concert-performance videos and stuff like that.”
“But anyway, to answer your question, my biggest love beyond music is film; filmmakers and directors, people like Stanley Kubrick and David Lynch and Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, the Coen Brothers…
Those guys are as big of artistic inspiration for me as my musical heroes, and I spend probably just as much time watching films and well-made TV these days as I do listening to movies.”
