Former Dream Theater drummer and current Sons Of Apollo star, Mike Portnoy, posted a couple of new photos on his official Instagram account today and shared his feelings after he celebrated his 54th birthday with his daughter and wife.

As you may already follow Portnoy’s career, he was born in Long Beach, New York, in 1967. He is considered one of the best drummers of all time, and he’s one of the co-founders of the legendary progressive metal band Dream Theater. After he parted ways with the band after 25 years, he worked with many other bands like Flying Colors, Metal Allegiance, and Sons Of Apollo.

In his latest Instagram post, Mike admitted that it’s one of the birthdays that he felt down and revealed the reason for it. According to Mike, the social distance and not feeling alive made him sad. However, he managed to smile and pose cheerfully with his lovely daughter Melody Portnoy and his beloved wife Marlene Portnoy.

Here is what Mike wrote in the caption:

“Had an amazing birthday dinner with my two gals Marlene & Melody Portnoy. Max and Alex Snowden are out of town with Tallah.

Thank you EVERYBODY for your Birthday posts & messages… I read them all and they all meant the world to me. I have to admit, I’ve been a little sad and down lately… I just don’t feel ‘alive’ without much direct contact with the outside world.

But all of your love, support, and birthday wishes really meant the world to me and lifted my spirits! Hopefully, we’ll get back to normal soon and I can see you all again…I can’t wait!
