Former Metallica bassist Ron McGovney took his Twitter account to respond to the fans’ most wondered questions about Metallica history and unveiled the background story of a photoshoot with James Hetfield.

As you may recall, Ron McGovney was the original bassist of the iconic thrash metal band Metallica. Ron performed with the band between the years of 1981 and 1982, however, his short time in Metallica included the continuous clash with the band’s drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist Dave Mustaine. Eventually, McGovney left the band and replaced by Cliff Burton.

Recently on Twitter, a Metallica fan shared a rarely seen photo of the band members posing in front of a urinal which was probably taken during the very first years of the band. The fan asked Ron McGovney, who was also in the photo, to share some background information about the photoshoot.

In his response to the fan’s request, McGovney revealed that while James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, and Dave Mustaine were wearing spandex, he was wearing jeans. Apparently, the iconic frontman James poured beer on his bandmate’s jeans.

Furthermore, Ron responded to another fan who claimed the photographer who took the picture could be Bill Hale. McGovney stated that the photographer was probably a female but he didn’t share a name or any other information.

Here’s what Ron stated about the rare Metallica photo:

“Yeah… I’m the only one not wearing spandex, so I got beer poured on my jeans.”

He also added:

“I think it was a female photographer.”
