Former Metallica bassist Ron McGovney reacted to a picture of the original band members and revealed an unknown fact about James Hetfield‘s performance at the first six Metallica shows.
The legendary thrash metal band Metallica was founded in 1981 by vocalist and guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich. Ron McGovney, the original bassist of the band, performed with Metallica between the years of 1981 and 1982.
As you might remember, McGovney’s short time in Metallica included the continuous clash with the band’s drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist Dave Mustaine. Eventually, McGovney left the band and replaced by Cliff Burton.
Recently, a Twitter user nicknamed The Steele Cage shared a picture of the original lineup from one of Metallica’s first shows almost 40 years ago. Apparently, the Metallica fan claimed that James Hetfield was not playing guitar while the picture was taken due to press purposes.
However, Ron McGovney responded to the fan’s tweet by correcting the wrong information. Ron also revealed a rarely known fact about James Hetfield and asserted the iconic vocalist was only singing without playing guitar at the first six performances of Metallica years ago.
Here’s what Ron McGovney stated in his tweet:
“Not true. We played our first 6 shows with James as a singer with no guitar.”
