On Twitter, former bass guitarist of Metallica, Ron McGovney posted a tweet revealing a rarely known highschool memory of his former bandmate James Hetfield and how people changed their attitude towards him over the years.
Ron McGovney was the original bassist of the iconic thrash metal band Metallica and performed with the band between the years of 1981 and 1982. However, his short time in Metallica included the continuous clash with the band’s drummer Lars Ulrich and guitarist Dave Mustaine. Eventually, McGovney left the band and replaced by Cliff Burton.
However, as he was there during the very first years of Metallica, Ron often shares his memories with the band’s original members, James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, on his social media accounts.
Recently on Twitter, Ron McGovney shared a rarely known highschool memory involving Metallica frontman James Hetfield. In his tweet, Ron stated that back in 1981, he went to the 10th highschool reunion and people were pretending to know James by telling stories about him. However, McGovney claimed that those people were not even talking to them during high school years and added he reacted to their fake stories by simply smiling.
Here’s how Ron McGovney recalled the highschool years with James Hetfield:
“I remember going to my 10th high school reunion in 1981. All these people were talking about how well they knew James Hetfield. I would just smile and think….this person didn’t even talk to us at all when we were in high school.”

I know what you mean Mark. I remember going to my 10th high school reunion in 1981. All these people were talking about how well they knew James Hetfield. I would just smile and think….this person didn't even talk to us at all when we were in high school.
