Former Van Halen vocalist Sammy Hagar was interviewed by Eddie Trunk during the recent episode of Trunk Nation podcast.
Sammy confirmed that Van Halen’s manager contacted bassist Michael Anthony for a reunion tour six months ago. Here’s the statement:
“I’m not trying to hide anything, it’s not like I know something. Mike and I have had the conversation, I’m telling you Mike don’t know shit. They are going to have to eventually give the guy a call.
He (Mike) got a call 6 months ago from (Van Halen) management saying, “Are you interested?” and he said, yeah, but I’m doing a record right now with Sammy and we are booking shows so you’d have to work around it and they said, OK, we will get back to you and that was it.”
He also said:
“The main thing I want to say is that Michael Anthony is one of my dearest friends in the world, he’s my band mate, him and I are soul brothers. We are, talk about cut from the same mold, the whole high tide beach thing, that’s the way we live. We live the same lifestyle.
I told Mike, and these are all just rumors, as usual, Mike’s hearing about it through the news just like the way he heard about when Wolfie replaced him and was like Oh, I guess I’m not in Van Halen anymore, he read about it instead of these knuckleheads giving him a call and being straight up front with him.
Mikey’s still sitting in that same position again where all of these rumors are going around and I’m sure they are trying to put something together but how it’s going to materialize I wouldn’t have a clue, it’s nothing to do with me.
I told Mike, if this happens you have my blessings, you go do this, you’re a founding member in that band and for the fans he needs to do it. He is the missing element right now.”
