Slayer and Exodus guitarist Gary Holt recently posted a photo of his friend and bandmate Tom Hunting and announced that he was recently diagnosed with a gastric tumor and will soon start treatment. For this reason, Holt said that Exodus has decided to delay the release of their upcoming album ‘until Tom has defeated this.’
Although Gary Holt’s social media posts often bear good news, that was not the case with his latest one. In his recent post, Gary Holt shared an ‘important statement from our man Tom Hunting’ who apparently has been going through some tough times. In his message, Hunting informed his fans about his recent diagnosis and soon to begin treatment for squamous cell carcinoma and said that the reason why he’s making this public is ‘to raise awareness for people to pay attention to symptoms of stomach and esophageal issues.’
Hunting reassured his fans that he feels very confident and physically strong which makes him feel sure that he’s gonna ‘beat this like a f*cking snare drum that owes me money.’ He thanked his loved ones and doctors that have been helping him out by saying that his support system is ‘an army in itself‘ and gave out a message of hope.
After Hunting’s message, Gary Holt also wanted to share some of his thoughts. He announced that Exodus’s upcoming album ‘Persona Non Grata‘ which has been in the works since 2016 and was supposed to be released in June 2021, has been delayed. He went on to add that they’ll wait until Hunting gets back to full strength so that they can hit the road and reunite with their fans.
Here’s what was written in the caption of Holt’s recent post:
“Important statement from our man Tom Hunting:
Today I will be starting treatment for squamous cell carcinoma. It’s a gastric tumor that was diagnosed in my upper stomach in February. I’m making this public to raise awareness for people to pay attention to symptoms of stomach and esophageal issues. If they persist, please go get it checked out. I’m not gonna be sheepish talking about it. I feel that if I can help someone with what I’ve learned, or someone out there has information to share with me, it’s a win-win! When you can name the enemy, it’s empowering, and you’re 1 step closer to killing it!
Ok, you’ve heard the bad news. The good news is he feels great physically! I’m gonna beat this like a fucking snare drum that owes me money!!! I have great doctors and a great support system that is an army in itself. I’m ready for the fight!
We have a lot to celebrate this year with the release of what will be a career-defining album and tours to follow! I’m stoked for everyone to hear it, and even more excited to get out there and play some of it! I will see you all very soon! CHEERS!!!”
Gary Holt went on to pen a message too:
Tom starts his first round of chemo today, so I know he will feel the positive vibes being sent his way. Exodus will delay the release of the new record so that when Tom has defeated this, he will be back to full strength to hit the road and pummel his drums like only he can! When he has kicked cancer’s ass like we know he will, we will resume kicking YOUR asses with the sickest record yet!
All love and positivity to my brother.”
