Gene Simmons, who is the bass guitarist and co-founder of KISS, spoke in a recent interview with Gulf News and talked about the band members’ point of view on KISS as well as revealing his opinions on Billie Eilish and Lady Gaga.
In the conversation, Gene Simmons shared his thoughts about artists from different genres and said that he really likes the way how Billie Eilish makes music uniquely. In this way, he showed his respect for the young musician.
Additionally, Simmons stated that Lady Gaga has a fantastic personality because she can sing like nobody’s business. Also, the KISS icon pointed out that she can do so many things including playing the piano, and showed why Lady Gaga is a great musician.
Furthermore, Gene admitted that he and his bandmates don’t really take KISS seriously because they have been playing for too long together. He mentioned that it’s been 47 years that KISS is on the track.
Here is what Gene Simmons said about contemporary pop musicians:
“I love all the pop artists. I think Billie Eilish is fantastic. She’s interesting because she and her brother actually write the material and are unique to themselves.
Lady Gaga is fantastic in the female category. She writes her own material, she can sing like nobody’s business. But she actually is a musician, writes her own songs, plays piano, she can actually do that.
The rest of the world reacts to a lot of the pop divas, although mostly they don’t write their own songs and can’t play an instrument. And by the way, that’s OK, too. It doesn’t matter what you like. But it ain’t The Beatles.“
Then the interviewer asked:
“How come you say The Beatles, not KISS?”
To which Simmons replied:
“We don’t take ourselves too seriously, it’s not for us. We’re approaching 47 years and being out there…
I think the great thing about us, and I don’t mince words, is that our job is to bring some light into the world. As soon as you see KISS, your life will change.”
