The masked frontman of Swedish metal band Ghost, Tobias Forge, made a special playlist for ‘Apple Music Metal’ last week and shared his thoughts on many tracks including the legendary song of Metallica named ‘The Thing That Should Not Be.’

You might know that ‘The Thing That Should Not Be’ is the third track of Metallica’s third studio album ‘Master of Puppets’ which was released on March 3, 1986, via Elektra Records, and the track was made by James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Cliff Burton, and Kirk Hammett. While sharing the playlist on Apple Music, Forge stated that the song is slightly different in tonality and it’s one of the darkest songs of the band.

In the playlist, Forge also included vintage metal bands like Slayer, Morbid Angel, and Voivod, as well as punk acts like Dead Boys and Bad Religion. He also shared his thoughts on ‘Leave Mine to Me’ saying he used to listen to the track over and over again in his younghood by claiming that the track includes beautiful vocal harmonies and really good lyrics

Here is what Ghost frontman told about the song:

“This is one of Metallica’s darker songs, almost more in line with death metal… Definitely not the norm if you listen to the catalog.

It’s slightly different in tonality, which makes it stand out and makes it super heavy and evil. Very Lovecraftian lyrics. This song has been a huge inspiration of mine for over 30 years.”
