Guns N’ Roses employee Stephen Thaxton spoke in an interview with Appetite for Destruction podcast, revealed the story about why Axl Rose’s sister Amy Bailey
ran all over Bogota to find cocaine.

Here’s the story:

“Axl’s sister, Amy – what a wonderful girl, she’s a nurse. So she is looking and trying to help people, and there is this Columbian soldier who comes backstage. She grabs him because he is bleeding profusely from his head.

She’s like, ‘Steve, can you sow him up?’ Of course, being a chiropractor, I wasn’t necessarily trained in stitching people up, but I had stitched a few people here and there, including one band member one time. So I’m like, ‘Okay, yeah, sure. But I’m out of lidocaine.’

Because when we toured to a lot of third-world countries, so you don’t know what kind of medical care you’ll get, so I carried various supplies, and I didn’t have a sewing kit and vile of lidocaine, but I had used it all previously, so I had nothing to numb this guy’s head up.

Amy said, ‘Wait a minute! We’re in Bogota, Colombia. Let’s go get some cocaine. We’ll throw it on the wound and it’ll numb it all up.’ ‘Great idea!’ An hour later, Amy comes back, and she’s so distraught, like, her head is hanging, her shoulders are slumped forward.

I’m like, ‘Amy, are you okay? What’s the matter?’ She goes, ‘I’ve searched everywhere, I can’t find any cocaine in Bogota, Columbia.'”

Former Guns N’ Roses manager Doug Goldstein said:

“She wasn’t asking the right band members.”

Thaxton responded:

“Yeah, maybe if she had asked the right band members, exactly. The poor soldier got his head sewed up without any anesthesia.”
