Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash opened up about his opinions on the late Van Halen guitarist Eddie Van Halen during a recent interview with Consequence Of Sound, and apparently, Eddie was a much greater guitar player than any other according to Slash.
As you may know, after the passing of Eddie Van Halen, Slash revealed his thoughts on him on the day of Van Halen’s loss and praised Eddie as he referred to him as an amazing, innovator guitar player in addition to being one of the biggest contributors to rock and roll music.
Here is what Slash stated about Eddie’s devastating death:
“He changed guitar playing. He was such an amazing musician, amazing guitar player, an amazing innovator, and just a hell of a guy. And we really lost a major contributor to rock and roll today.”
Since it’s obvious that Slash had a huge admiration for Eddie Van Halen, it did not surprise his fans when he, once again, opened up about Eddie and praised him. In a recent interview, he expressed his respect and appreciation for him by stating that Eddie Van Halen was a gifted musician which made him even much greater.
Here is how Slash praised Eddie’s music and his personality:
“The thing about Eddie is that he was such a gifted musician. Any instrument he had chosen to play would have been phenomenal because he just had that pure musical talent. And he chose guitar because that’s what turned him on.
And for somebody with that kind of musical talent to get turned on to rock ‘n’ roll guitar was sort of unique unto itself because most of us guitar players are a ragged bunch of rock ‘n’ rollers who don’t have too much technical ability or schooling. We just sort of go for this raw thing. And he had that, but he also had this musical, sort of classical gift.”
“Then, on top of that, just being somebody sort of like Les Paul, who hears something in his head or has an idea and creates it. So it made him a triple threat. He was a great guitar player, but he was also this amazing musician, so it just made his guitar playing that much greater.
And then he was an innovator on top of it, creating new things with whatever his imagination came up with. So he was just an amazing artist, period.”
As you may remember, Eddie Van Halen, unfortunately, passed away over two months ago after his long battle with throat cancer. The whole music industry and his fans have been grieving since the loss of the iconic guitarist and remembering him with great respect and love.
