The founder, rhythm guitarist, and main songwriter of Iced Earth, Jon Schaffer, recently appeared before the judge after being arrested for raiding the United States Capitol on January 16 who decided that he will be held without bail while awaiting his next trial as he’s not a flight risk, but he does pose a danger to the community.’

As you may recall, on January 6, 2021, former President Donald Trump’s supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to prevent Congress from accepting the elected president Joe Biden’s win in the Electoral College. One of the familiar faces between the crowd of supporters was Jon Schaffer.

He turned himself in, in mid-January, after the photos which proved that he was inside the Capitol during the siege emerged, and his name was added to the FBIsMost Wanted‘ list. Some days ago, he appeared in court in front of the judge as he faced six federal charges, including physically assaulting a police officer by using bear spray.

The U.S. Judge Zia Faraqui ordered Jon Schaffer to be held without bail while waiting for his trial as he’s not a flight risk, but poses a danger to the community. After the trial, Schaffer’s lawyer Marc Victor said that he has filed a ‘motion to amend detention‘ order, as he believes that his client was falsely prosecuted as a ‘danger to the community’ based on inconclusive evidence.

Here’s what Marc Victor said:

“Mr. Schaffer is 53 years old. He has no criminal convictions. He does not have a substance abuse or mental health issue. He has no history of violence and was not violent on January 6, 2021. He entered the Capitol with pepper spray. He did not threaten anyone with or discharge the spray. He left the capitol after approximately sixty seconds and returned home to Indiana.”
