Metallica frontman James Hetfield shared his ideas about ‘The Metallica Blacklist’ in his interview with The Guardian and reacted to the fans who expressed their doubts about the record featuring Metallica covers.

As you probably know, Metallica released their fifth studio album known as ‘The Black Album’ on August 12, 1991. It became the band’s best-selling album with its distinct sound and lyrics, changing Metallica’s career forever. As a part of celebrating the album’s 30th anniversary, Metallica started to work on various projects.

Initially, the band announced that ‘The Black Album Remastered’ will be released on September 10, 2021, along with ‘The Metallica Blacklist,’ a cover project with 52 musicians such as Rina Sawayama, Corey Taylor, Weezer, and many more. The artists performed songs from the ‘The Black Album,’ and most of them have already achieved critical acclaim.

However, some fans have concerns about ‘The Metallica Blacklist’ and the artists who partook in the project. Therefore, during his interview, James Hetfield wanted to reassure them that different artists covering their songs cannot change Metallica’s iconic and unique style.

Hetfield said in his interview that:

“We cast the net as wide as possible: to rock, alternative, country, bluegrass, and rap. I know there’s a lot of Metallica fans out there who are pretty concerned about that. Don’t worry; Metallica is Metallica. Somebody covering our song isn’t going to change us.”

So James Hetfield highlighted that no one and nothing could change Metallica even though a significant number of fans regarded the band’s cover project featuring artists from different genres as a sign of the change in Metallica.
