Metallica frontman James Hetfield spoke in an interview by Q&A and a fan was asked a question: “The most difficult situation you have been through in your life, as a person and as a band”. He said:

We’ve grown up together, we’ve experienced so many life experiences together… Great, great mountains we’ve climbed, and then deep, deep valleys we’ve been in.

The passing of Cliff was really, really difficult for all of us. I would say the movie ‘Some Kind of Monster’ definitely highlights a really difficult time for the band and me personally.

I think that being honest in our music, being honest about ourselves as artists – music is such a great therapy.

It means a lot to me that my darkness can connect with your darkness and make it OK. [crowd applause]”
