Metallica frontman James Hetfield has been struggling with alcohol problems over a year. As you might remember, Metallica decided to postpone its 2019 and 2020 tours in the middle of 2019 because of the rehab process of James Hetfield.

Back on January 30, James Hetfield made his first public appearance after the rehab and attended a classical car exhibition to showcase his private collection. Plus, he joined a chat session during the event and looked healthy and well.

However, James Hetfield still saddened the fans with his recent decision. Continuously, I always check the social media accounts of rock and metal celebrities to dig something. And for me, one of the most influential people from the metal community is Papa Het from Metallica, no doubt.

Today, I wanted to check his Instagram page, but there was something wrong. I didn’t find his account and realized that James walked away from his Instagram account once again. This time, he completely shut it down.

I have to say that it’s not the first time James abandoned his Instagram account. In 2016, he left social media and gave some interesting statements about it. And that time, we guaranteed that he would never come back at that platform, but still, he returned in February 2018.

Four years ago, Papa Het spoke in an interview with the Canadian Press and revealed what he thinks about social media. If you read his statement from that interview, maybe you can find out why he closed his social media account.

Here’s what he said:

“I got sucked into the social media around… I was trying to be hip, trying to be cool. You know, my kids are on Instagram, ‘I wanna try this thing.’ I just wanted to look like the cool dad to my kids. And I ended up being just…

It was this huge time sucker, and that’s all I was thinking about. ‘Oh, hey, I’m here. I can take a picture and put it on Instagram and get some hits,’ or whatever, and trying to get many followers…

But there is a good part to that — you know, there’s actually people you can meet and converse with and get to know, and then when you get to their town, you’re, ‘Wow, hey, you’re here.’ And you make a friend. But most of the time, it was just sucking my time, and I just started to neglect regular life. It was living in the cyber world, and it was not for me.”
