Metallica frontman James Hetfield recently posted a photo on Metallica’s official Instagram account and penned an emotional message with which he paid tribute to ‘the Metal Matriarch of the East Coast.’
As you may know, one of the most prominent figures of the metal world passed away on January 10, 2021, and her death left her family, friends, and loved ones heartbroken. Her passing was mourned by everyone in the metal scene, including Metallica, Gary Holt, and many more.
Marsha Zazula was the co-founder of Megaforce alongside her husband in 1983. She was often praised for her kindness, courage, distinct character, energy, hard work, but most importantly, for her contributions to metal music. As you may know, Megaforce released numerous famous albums, including Metallica‘s first two ones.
Bearing in mind that Metallica didn’t achieve mainstream success from day one and that their style was considered to be highly unconventional, it sure took a lot of courage for Marsha Zazula to produce their albums. It was indeed their first two albums, ‘Kill ‘Em All’ (1983) and ‘Ride the Lightning’ (1984) that put them on the map. Although Metallica decided to continue with Elektra Records for their third album, Megaforce still holds the credit of being the record label that launched Metallica‘s career.
Consequently, her passing deeply saddened all the members of the band who upon receiving the sad news, posted a photo of themselves with Marsha Zazula on Metallica’s official Instagram account and paid their respects to such an amazing woman. However, it seems like James Hetfield had some things he wanted to say too.
Here’s what James Hetfield said in the caption of the photo that he posted on Metallica’s official Instagram account:
“Marsha Z is the Metal Matriarch of the East Coast. She was our mother when I had none. She made great sacrifices for Metallica to grow. Thank you, Marsha. Love and positive energy to the Zazula family. – James Hetfield”
In this emotional message, James Hetfield thanked Zazula for being his mother when he had none and supporting his career as a musician. It must have been very hard for Hetfield to receive this heartbreaking news and his recent post shows that he will always remember her as ‘the Metal Matriarch of the East Coast.’
