Game of Thrones and SEE’s great star Jason Momoa talked about his newfound passion for bass guitar in a recent interview with Joel McIver on Guitar World, and revealed that it was Tool that inspired him to go for it.
As you know, Jason Momoa had previously made it to our headlines with the support that he had shown for Phil Anselmo on SCOUR’s online event. Momoa is a big metal and rock head, thus, it shouldn’t be surprising that he eventually decided to pick up an instrument and started playing some tunes himself.
In a recent interview with Guitar World’s Joel McIver, he revealed that he has been working on learning how to play bass. He said that it was his assistant’s birthday party when he decided to pick up a bass guitar and play ‘Sober‘ by Tool which is his assistant’s favorite band.
That was the point when his ‘passion for bass really exploded’ and it made him think that he should have started playing sooner. However, Momoa added that it’s never too late and said that since then, he has been making up for the time he lost not playing his now-favorite instrument.
here’s what Momoa said in the interview:
“It was my assistant’s birthday, and she really loves Tool, so I borrowed a bass from my buddy and we all played ‘Sober’ for her. Right then, my passion for bass really exploded. The moment I put it on, I could just feel the connection – and it was all over.
I always knew I wanted to play bass. After that, I wanted to play standup, so I bought one and now it’s a passion for me, with how it makes me feel and how it sounds. I studied and studied and studied bass, and I was like ‘My God, I wish I would have done this when I was young.’ I wish that I had that opportunity – but I’m making up for the lost time.”
