The official Instagram account of Led Zeppelin legend Jimmy Page posted a photo taken at the backstage of Vancouver concert in 1971 and shared the story of the band’s iconic song ‘Stairway to Heaven‘ becoming one of the most popular rock songs of all time.

The legendary English rock band Led Zeppelin released their untitled fourth studio album, commonly known ‘Led Zeppelin IV,’ on November 8, 1971. ‘Stairway to Heaven‘ was composed by guitarist Jimmy Page and vocalist Robert Plant and released with the ‘Led Zeppelin IV.’

Recently, the official Instagram account of Jimmy Page shared a photo of Led Zeppelin’s legendary guitarist taken at the backstage of Vancouver show on August 19, 2020. On the caption of the post, Jimmy Page explained how he realized the band’s 1971 song ‘Stairway to Heaven’ would receive the worldwide success it had today.

Apparently, during their North American tour in Vancouver, Canada, Led Zeppelin played ‘Stairway to Heaven’ before its official release. The audience gave the band a standing ovation after they played the song which made them realize this would be something huge for their music career. Now, ‘Stairway to Heaven’ is often considered as the most popular rock song of all time.

Here’s how Jimmy Page realized ‘Stairway to Heaven’ became one of the most notable songs of all time:

“Led Zeppelin began their North American tour in Vancouver, Canada on 19th August 1971 but started in the US at the LA Forum on this day – this being the first of two nights.

I remember a standing ovation from a good percentage of the audience after Stairway to Heaven – this was quite remarkable as we were touring this material from an album not to be released until three months later.⁣”
