Joe Perry recently attended an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock and resembled David Lee Roth to Jimi Hendrix.
Aerosmith’s legendary guitarist Joe Perry is looked up to by many rockstars including Slash. He was ranked number 84 in the list of The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time by Rolling Stone and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001.
Being a founding member of Aerosmith, Perry did not leave the band since its formation in 1970. With its success, Aerosmith was a major influence on many legendary bands such as Mötley Crüe and Guns N’ Roses. However, they also looked up to other rock bands and rockstars.
In the recent interview, Perry spoke about Van Halen, a band he admired and looked up to. He talked about the band and stated how amazing they are. Moreover, he resembled David Lee Roth, Van Halen’s vocalist to ‘Jimi Hendrix of the mouth.’
“Eddie was the leader in a whole new generation of guitar players and changed guitar playing – his style, everything. It was funny – cause when I heard some of his stuff, I said, ‘Wow, I heard that effect before. I’ve heard that before,’ but he’s the one that put it all together. And it was new.
Man, I thought that Van Halen was an incredible band. David Lee Roth was like the Jimi Hendrix of the mouth. When they were at their peak, they were the best – they were rocking.”
