In a recent interview made by Drumtalk, former Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison spoke about his current music career. He said:

“I took myself back to before everything happened in my life and my career, like why did I play music in the first place. It’s because it gave me a place to belong.

I had a bunch of killer friends when I was growing up but I was very much kind of a loner because I sticking to music constantly. And I just knew that no matter what I was gonna do that I could not live the rest of my life without still playing drums and still forming music.

When you have the music flowing through you like that, you have great support of your family and your trainers and your lady and especially your band members, there’s nothing you can’t accomplish. I got back stronger than I ever have been. I’ve been playing better now than I have been in years. Because all I do is practice. Because I don’t take it for granted anymore.

I’ll be up at like 4 o’clock in the morning still playing and getting yelled at from my lady upstairs. And I don’t even know what time it is because I’ve been playing for six hours straight.

But I enjoy playing now more than I ever have. It just feels different than it did before. It does become a routine even though and you take it for granted a little bit. Honestly, I think it was the best thing that ever happened to me. As much as it sucked and how hard it was.

I got myself back, I’m really thankful for all the trainers and the doctors and doctors and everything, and my lady and my inner strength. And I got back.

Sometimes life takes you down trouble path, not to hurt you but to cleanse you and put you down the right path. So I think that’s really what it was.”
