During a recent appearance on 2020’d Podcast, Shadows Fall guitarist Jonathan Donais recalled the time he had a rehearsal with Anthrax.

In the conversation, Jonathan pointed out why Shadows Fall decided to continue their journey and said that some of the members were having children and didn’t want to continue touring frequently.

When the band members decided to choose their own paths, Anthrax also lost their guitarist and wanted Jonathan to join as a stand-in. And it was actually the iconic guitarist Scott Ian is the person who called him to join to rehearsal.

Furthermore, Jonathan revealed that they had a gig with Scott and he showed him the songs they will play in the show. Also, Jonathan pointed out that he was shaking during the first show.

Here is what Jonathan Donais said:

“Cause he knew he was gonna leave, and he wanted to make sure that they were all set. He wanted to make sure that they were covered and didn’t wanna leave ’em hanging.

And he knew we knew each other, and he asked me if I’d be interested, and I was, like, ‘Yeah. A hundred percent.’

And then I didn’t hear anything for a little bit, and I didn’t know what was going on.’ Then, maybe two or three weeks later, Scott Ian called, and he goes, ‘I heard you know what’s going on.’ I go, ‘Yeah.’ He goes, ‘Can you do it?’ I go, ‘Fucking absolutely.’

Donais made his live debut with Anthrax in Australia without a single rehearsal with the band. “I jammed with Scott a little bit, but it was, ‘Here. Learn these songs and be ready. Oh. God. That first show — I was shaking.”
