In an interview with So What, Metallica’s iconic guitarist Kirk Hammett talked about the band’s latest project ‘S&M2‘ and clarified whether they would be releasing new music any time soon.
As you may recall, the legendary thrash metal band Metallica released their live album, ‘S&M,’ with The San Fransisco Symphony more than 20 years ago which was recorded on April 21 and 22, 1999.
Last year, the band celebrated the 20th anniversary of the album with two concerts at the Chase Center. The shows included the original S&M performances and renditions of songs that had been released after. They also released the film of the concerts, named ‘S&M2,’ on theatres around the world which gained huge success.
Furthermore, Metallica carried out a one of a kind show named ‘Pandemica‘ which was streamed g drive-in movie theaters around the country as part of the ‘Encore Drive-In Nights’ concert series.
Recently, Metallica icon Kirk Hammett joined an interview with So What and talked about the band’s plans on releasing new music in the near future. According to Hammett, Metallica was indeed working on some new music which might be out much earlier than expected.
Additionally, Kirk mentioned the project he had been working on for a while and revealed he had already done two tracks named ‘High Plains Drifter’ and ‘The Incantation’ which he described as the ‘best fucking things’ he had ever done.
Here’s what Kirk Hammett stated about the new Metallica music and his own projects:
“Yeah, absolutely. Also, you know I’ve been doing this instrumental thing, so I’ve done these two tracks with Edwin that I mentioned earlier, which feel like the best fucking things I’ve ever done.
One of them is called ‘High Plains Drifter’ and the other one’s called ‘The Incantation.’ They’re not done yet, still in the rough mix stages, I mean I have to get the rough mixes, but I have four tracks now. And the four tracks are like four different movies, man.
They’re not movie soundtracks, they’re like movies. They tell a story! So I’m very excited about all the creative things in my life right now, from playing on my own to Metallica to this stuff, and I’m just going to keep working every day.”
