The widow of the late Nirvana legend Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love has thrown back to the 2000s when she hung out with the lead singer of Oasis from 1991 to 2009, Liam Gallagher, watching the sunrise at a hotel where Gallagher played guitar for Love.

The frontwoman of the alternative rock band Hole, Courtney Love, has recalled the good old days and brought forth the story of her little-known friendship on Instagram lately. Love has reminisced about the night he spent with the British singer, Liam Gallagher while claiming that Liam is the talent, it’s not Noel.

In the caption of the photo of herself taken with Liam Gallagher, Courtney said she asked her friend, Julie Panebianco, to get her Liam when the two were sunning and eating Niçoise salad one night back in the ’00s.

As they met Liam, they went back to the hotel to examine Gallagher’s labors closely. At some point, when they saw the sunrise, Liam grabbed a guitar and Courtney sang ‘Hold Onto Me,’ which was her first love song.

She remembered that Liam went next and played the iconic Oasis record ‘Songbird.’ That moment, Courtney said, she realized Liam is the actual talent behind the band, not Noel, as opposed to popular belief.

‘Songbird’ is a song written by Liam Gallagher for the band’s fifth studio album, ‘Heathen Chemistry.’ The record, which was released on February 3, 2003, peaked at number three in the UK charts. At the time of its release, the song was the only single not written by Liam’s brother Noel.

Here’s what Courtney Love said about Liam Gallagher in her recent Instagram post:

“00. Liam Gallagher and a cheesy snakeskin top from night market at Juan le pins (south of France) rolled into the capital early evening. Julie Whitebread asked what we should do tonight… having been sunning/ eating Niçoise salad/ chugging anyone else’s Petrus, (wine ) daily like bums in Cannes and U2 land, ‘I want Liam. Can we get me Liam?‘ I said…

Jp said ‘Ha! I bet I can find him in under an hour.’ ‘Really? Ok! Do it.’ Off she went within 20 minutes she’d found him (met bar) ‘come down he wants to hang’ she was laughing. 20 minutes! An idiot American I’d ordered an actual limousine (no one uses those in London. Just suckers like me!)

I recall Graham Coxon reciting platitudes that an essay-lecture I gave ‘Rips off Albini’ (🥱🙄) and the drug guy, Terry Chemical. Who dragged us to some hood in Brixton. ‘The thing is’ says Graham, ‘We gotta get. Rid of Terry’ (he had a beautiful Nico looking girlfriend with him) I found out that Terry Chemical had been a buddy of (Joe) Strummers when I lived in Joe’s basement.”

She continued:

“I’d met him when he had teeth. So I became pro-Terry Chemical. All night. ‘Terry stay!’ Ha! Drove people nuts. I love an underdog. Back to the hotel to examine fruits of Terry Chemical and Liam’s labors closely.

At some point, sunrise almost with everyone else gone (that gross almost sunrise feel! You all know it!) he grabs a guitar and after I play ‘Hold Onto Me’ which I was extremely proud of, my first love song, he goes next and plays the most sublime ‘Songbird.’

I kept thinking. Liam’s the talent! It’s not Noel! (unfair I’m sure. It’s them both.) Months later ‘Songbird’ which I’d told all that would listen was a work of such sublime game-changing beauty, George Harrison aspect included, was released.

But when it was recorded a minor tempo change had ruined (for me) the alchemical magic of ‘Songbird.’ Still a lovely song but that sunrise.🌄

Cokey comes down London morning it was… The best song ever. There. A little story for the kids. Aren’t we cute? Happy? Live forever. Cheers, Liam. Saving a seat.”
