Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich recently shared an old photo with his best friend and bandmate, James Hetfield, to celebrate the frontman’s 58th birthday by writing him a letter on his Instagram account.
As you probably know, Ulrich and Hetfield first met after the drummer placed an advertisement in The Recycler, which was a Los Angeles newspaper, to find other musicians to play with. Hetfield called Ulrich after seeing the ad in the newspaper and then the duo formed Metallica on October 28, 1981.
Since then, Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield have become not only bandmates but also best friends for life. Even though they have been through hard times, they never give up on each other and nothing affected their friendship. Previously, Hetfield had talked about their friendship by saying that ‘it lasted longer than all the marriages in the band.’
Just some hours ago, Lars Ulrich shared one of their photos on Instagram, accompanied by a letter he wrote, to celebrate Papa Het’s 58th birthday. In his letter, Ulrich expressed his happiness and gratitude for spending forty years together, which were full of crazy and unforgettable memories, while adding that they are just getting started.
Ulrich’s Instragram post read as follows:
“It’s all about the attitude!
Happy Birthday, James! Here’s to nearly 40 years of crazy cool shenanigans of every kind imaginable including an occasional raised middle finger, a little mugging for the camera… and lots of attitudes!
Wouldn’t have it any other way. And as we always have to remember… Just getting started!
Love you brother.“
