Metallica’s drummer Lars Ulrich spoke in an interview by Sonar 105 Radio and explained who his best friend is, except for Metallica members. He said:

“My best friend in music… I don’t think anybody’s ever asked me that question before! That’s a tough one… My best friend… Jerry Cantrell from Alice in Chains.

Alice In Chains vocalist/guitarist Jerry Cantrell revealed a crazy adventure he had with Lars in a past interview. Here’s the story:

“I’d sit at home and Lars would give me a call and be like, ‘Dude, what do you think about skiing tomorrow?’ I’m like, ‘What are you talking about?’ ‘Tomorrow, let’s go to Denver! Or Vegas, or Hawaii, or whatever!

I remember one time he wanted to go to Vegas. He calls me like, ‘Dude, I wanna play in Vegas in two hours, meet me there!‘ I dropped what I was doing, booked the ticket, grabbed a bag, put some clothes in it and went to the airport.

At that time, a bunch of people had been arrested for carrying guns at airports, like Tommy Lee. [I thought], ‘How could you not know you had a fucking gun in your bag?!’ Well, I grabbed this bag I haven’t used in 6 months and I had a .380 semi-automatic in it, fully loaded.

So I go through [the airport check] and the guy’s like, ‘What’s that in your bag?’ I’m like, ‘I dunno, a radio, a mini amp, a CD player…’ He’s like, ‘That doesn’t look like a CD player.’ I’m like, ‘Whatever man, you can open it up.’ He opens it up, pulls out a gun and I just shit a brick... [Laughs]”

He continued:

“Luckily, I had a permit for the gun, they just walked me downstairs and had me put it in a locker. Luckily enough, the plane was delayed and I made the flight!

That was our serious bonding moment. We stayed up for a couple of days, just gambling and talking and drinking.

I remember at the end of the night, we’re both sitting there – so drunk [chuckles] – we both had one of those little garbage cans on our lap [for puking]. We’re sitting on the floor cross-legged, just telling the stories of our lives, talking about this really heavy stuff and puking into these trash cans. [Laughs] It was a really fun time!
