Metallica’s legendary drummer, Lars Ulrich, recently posted a couple of photos and a video of his 92 years old father and expressed his excitement and respect for Torben Ulrich who is about to launch a new project in collaboration with his good friend Lori Goldston.
The co-founder and drummer of the legendary band Metallica comes from an upper-middle-class family and he was born in Denmark. His father Torben and grandfather Einer Ulrich were both professional tennis players and were quite famous in Denmark. However, Lars didn’t play tennis but preferred to go with drums.
Lars’s father Torben was not just a tennis player though, he was also a musician, a music critic, and a songwriter. in the late ’40s, he started writing for Danish jazz magazines, then he wrote for contemporary jazz music trade journals. In the ’50s he played clarinet in a New Orleans-type jazz band in the 2000s he collaborated with the Copenhagen free-jazz trio Clinch.
His music career went on for years after that and as it turns out, Torben Ulrich is about to put out another record. With his recent Instagram post, Lars Ulrich expressed the admiration and happiness that he feels for his father and said that he’s ‘92 years old and just getting started.’ From the looks of it, the star apple doesn’t fall far from the star tree.
Here’s what Lars Ulrich said in the caption of his recent Instagram account:
“Don’t delete that… This is my dad, he’s the one on the left. 92 years old and just getting started… Today, as one does at his age, he’s putting out another record, this one being a collaboration with his dear friend Lori Goldston.
If anybody’s interested in checking it out, it’s available on the Obscure & Terrible Bandcamp page. Definitely, something to aspire to. #wanna #HeavyMetalGandalf Torben Ulrich.”
