Lenny Kravitz, the iconic multi-instrumentalist, record producer, and actor, has sadly revealed that his sweet cousin, Jennifer Roker, passed away after a 9 year battle with ALS and got emotional while opening up about his grieving loss.

The Grammy-winning musician, whose style incorporates elements of various genres such as rock, blues, soul, and R&B, Lenny Kravitz has been active on Instagram, promoting his latest projects and recalling the good old days he got on the stage.

Unfortunately, this time Kravitz has taken the social media platfrom to unveil the sorrowful news for his family. Lenny explained that his cousin, Jennifer Roker, died of the illness called, ALS, after a long period of battling.

He said that Jennifer and he grew up together since his childhood in the Bahamas. Always looked up to her, Lenny added her cousin handled her situation with strength and elegance while continuing to live her life with grace until the very end.

The ALS, which is also known as Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, Motor Neurone Disease (MND) or Lou Gehrig’s disease, is an illness that causes the death of neurons controlling voluntary muscles.

ALS is characterized by stiff muscles, muscle twitching, and gradually worsening weakness due to muscles decreasing in size. It may begin with weakness in the arms or legs, or with difficulty speaking or swallowing.

About half of the people affected develop at least mild difficulties with thinking and behavior and most people experience pain. The majority of patients eventually lose the ability to walk, use their hands, speak, swallow, and breathe.

Here is what Lenny Kravitz said in his recent Instagram post:

“After a 9 year battle with ALS my sweet cousin Jennifer Roker made her transition last night. She and I grew up together since my childhood in the Bahamas. I love her deeply and always looked up to her.

She handled her situation with strength and elegance and continued to live her life with grace until the very end. I will miss you and will always cherish our laughter and adventures. I am comforted knowing that you are now free. Rest in heavenly peace.”
