During the recent interview with Variety, Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine talked about his band’s genre. He also hinted that ‘rock music is dead’.
Here’s the statement:
“Imagine Dragons, One Republic, Coldplay and Maroon 5. There’s your category for best group. The Grammys had to change the f—ing category because there weren’t any bands. Now any [featured artist] can make it. Goddamn it, we cornered the market — then you f—ed us, Grammys!“
Interviewer said “so where do you see yourselves — are you pop, rock, urban?” and Adam responded:
“Something unique to this band is that we have always looked to hip-hop, R&B, all rhythmic forms of music, from back when we were writing our first album to now. Rock music is nowhere, really. I don’t know where it is. If it’s around, no one’s invited me to the party.
All of the innovation and the incredible things happening in music are in hip-hop. It’s better than everything else. Hip-hop is weird and avant-garde and flawed and real, and that’s why people love it.
My goal is to make songs that don’t sound dated 10 years later. My main criteria for a song is, can I live with it forever? And if I can’t, I just don’t have the heart to do it. It’s that simple.”

Back in October 2018, according to report of TMZ, Def Jam Recordings submitted Kanye West for “Best Rock Song” and “Best Rock Performance” for his song “Freeee (Ghost Town, Pt. 2)” with Kid Cudi for a Grammy.
In a recent interview with WDHA, Rival Sons guitarist Scott Holiday explained how we can save rock music and said:
“It’s not really here that much right now, but it’s never going to die. We always say that rock ‘n’ roll doesn’t really need saving. People just need to listen to it. People need to buy it again.
There’s a lot of rock n’ roll listeners… and we see it not only all over America, but all over Europe. The rock n’ roll audience is out there, so I don’t think it needs saving – it just needs bands to make good rock ‘n’ roll, and people to buy it and listen to it and go watch it.” -click here to full statement-
