Former Guns N’ Roses drummer Matt Sorum celebrated the 57th birthday of Metallica drummer and mastermind, Lars Ulrich, by sharing a new post on his official Instagram account and revealed how Lars made it possible for him to join Guns N’ Roses.
In the caption of his recent post, Matt Sorum mentioned that they first met with Lars Ulrich when he was playing with The Cult during the ‘Justice For All’ tour. Sorum stated that he and Lars became great friends after the tour.
Only six months after the tour ended, The Cult was disbanded. Apparently, later on, Ulrich gave Matt’s phone number to Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash which eventually led him to join Guns N’ Roses back in 1990.
While showing his gratitude and paying his tribute to Lars Ulrich, Matt also pointed out that they had a great time during the stadium tour of Metallica. As he celebrated Lars’ birthday, Sorum also thanked him once again for all the support he provided throughout the course of many years.
Here’s what Matt Sorum stated in the caption of his photo with Lars Ulrich:
“Happy Birthday to my pal of 31 years Lars Ulrich… We met when The Cult opened the Justice For All tour and spent many nights on the road together living the life of Rock N Roll.
The Cult did close to 6 months on that tour and the adventures were insane and are still with me to this day. After that, we remained close as Lars was the one that gave Slash my phone number to get in GNR.
Of course the Epic GNR, Metallica Stadium tour was legendary. Besides all of the musical accolades most importantly he has always been there as a friend.”
